Save the Vaal’s second wine tasting event is expected to be bigger and even more fun than the successful event last year.   It takes place on Saturday 19th November at one of the most beautiful venues on the banks of the Vaal River in Vanderbijl Park at Plot 124 Kaalplaats Road, Windsor.  Gates open at 13:00 and close at 19:00.

SAVE is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers. ‘Wine under Willows’ is one of several efforts to keep SAVE financially afloat.

Save the Vaal aims to prevent pollution of the Vaal River between the Vaal Dam and Parys.  It has notched up many successes since its inception in the 1980’s.  This year, SAVE’s efforts resulted in the National Department of Water and Sanitation taking notice of the situation. The Department instituted emergency repairs to 26 waste-water works whose effluent feeds into the Vaal River and Vaal Dam at a cost of R132 million.  In addition, the Denysville and Leeukuil works are being upgraded with capacity increases.

“We see this as the first phase in our aim of preventing pollution from these waste water works and the ageing sewer system”, said Maureen Stewart, Vice Chairperson of SAVE.  “We are now waiting responses from the Minister regarding progress with the Sedibeng Regional Sewerage System which was widely publicised in 2015 but has not got off the ground.  If necessary, we will take this matter to the High Court.  It is for such action that we need to raise funds”.

Wines for tasting include Glen Carlou, Klein Zalze, Van Loveren and many others. Liquor City will be presenting an array of their wines and will offer a brandy and whisky tastings. There’s also craft beer, other refreshments and food on sale.   An art exhibition adds further interest to this not-to-be-missed event. There are also great prizes to be won including a Playstation 4, a wheelbarrow filled with goodies, restaurant, spa and hotel vouchers.

Tickets for the wine tasting cost R150 per per person,  incluing a tasting glass. Children get free entry and can have fun on a jumping castle.  For further information contact Megan on 082-9072244.  Contact us on Twitter @savethevaal or visit our website www.save.org.za.

Join SAVE  for this family fun day, drink wine under the willows and save our beautiful Vaal River from pollution.  Wine tasting is in a covered venue.
