Fezile Dabi internal audit team awarded

The 87th Conference of the Institute of Municipal Finance Officers took place at the Durban International Chief Albert Luthuli complex. Attended by ministers, mayors and municipal managers, it was held under the theme, ‘Sustaining municipal viability amidst the economic crisis.’ Different municipalities were awarded and recognised for their contribution in making municipalities viable institutions and adhering to good practices that promote clean administration. Fezile Dabi District Municipality, represented by the municipal manager, Ms. Lindi Molibeli and chief financial officer, Mr Gcobani Mashiyi, were awarded the second best internal audit and best clean administra-tion in South Africa. The municipal manager Lindi said: ‘In Fezile Dabi we work as a team, this award is an acknowledgement of teamwork in ensuring that our internal audit unit is effective and performs its duties maximally.’

The municipal manager Lindi said: ‘In Fezile Dabi we work as a team, this award is an acknowledgement of teamwork in ensuring that our internal audit unit is effective and performs its duties maximally.’
‘For us to achieve a clean audit, we need an internal audit that is able to identify weaknesses and recommend necessary mitigating steps even before the auditor general identifies those weaknesses, but it does not end there. This also requires all the departments within the institu- tion to cooperate with the unit by availing the necessary information.’
The executive mayor of Fezile Dabi District Municipality, Ms Oumix Oliphant, also expressed her appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the internal audit unit in the municipality.
‘I have no doubt that this award is an acknowledgement of the dedication and hard work of our officials. Our policy is very clear in   Fezile Dabi Z teamwork produces great results. As politicians, we truly appreciate this and we will continue to provide oversight and support to our officials to perform even better,’ she said.
