Parysenaars be on the look out! The police warn the community to be on the lookout as theft of gate motors are increasing.

According to police records just recently about three motor gates were stolen in the Welkom area and suspects where unknown thus the urge for homeowners to take note of this challenge and be prepared to take precautionary measures to prevent theft and being victims of crime.

The following safety tips can assist in curbing theft of gate motors:

Ensure that your gate motors are secured in a steel casing or bracket which is locked at all times.

Fit an anti-theft bracket onto the gate motor. All manufacturers of gate motors offer anti-theft brackets that can be purchased from them at a reasonable prices.

Ensure that your driveway and gate are well lit at night.

Tack weld hold-down bolts and nuts on either side of the motor. If thieves experience difficulty removing the nuts, they will likely move on to the next gate motor.

Newer model gate motors can be linked to home alarm systems, which will alarm the owner if the gate motor is being tampered with.

Lock the gate at night with a proper padlock.

The community is again reminded that buying stolen gate motors encourages the thieves to steal more, and also by buying stolen goods you are much guilty as the criminal who stole the items.
