The Electoral Commission urges voters to be on the lookout for and wary of an email scam which seeks to solicit personal information from voters (commonly known as “phishing”) – allegedly as part of an electronic voting survey on behalf of the Electoral Commission.

The emails are being distributed by the “Independent Elections Council” under the email address elections@IEC.co.za and have “Electronic Voting Testing Phase” in the subject field.

The link provided in the email requests login details and the interface resembles that of the Electoral Commission’s website but it does not use the same Uniform Resource Locator (URL).

These emails and this website are fake and have nothing to do with the Electoral Commission.

Recipients are advised not to respond to the email or to open any hyperlinks within it.
