Three ballot papers next week

Voters in next week’s municipal elections in Ngwathe will each be given three ballot papers. “The first is for your ward councillor, the second for the District Council (Fezile Dabi for us), and the third for the political party of your choice,” says DA councillor Shirley Vermaak. In Ngwathe’s five towns 69 voting stations will be open from 07:00 to 19:00 on Wednesday 3 August. However, next Monday and - in the case of larger voting stations - also Tuesday, voting stations will be open for special votes. People who have applied and qualified for special votes will be visited at home (if they are infirm or disabled) or must vote at their voting station.

“You may vote only at the station where you are registered. If your name does not appear on the roll but you have a sticker in your ID book or with your Smart Card proving that you are registered there, you will be able to vote, “ says Vermaak.. To find out where you are registered, SMS your ID number to 32810.
Six parties are contesting in Ngwathe. They are (in alphabetical order) the ACDP, ANC, COPE, DA, EFF AND VF+. In Ward 7 there is an Independent candidate. COPE and the EFF are not contesting some wards.
