VAAL COMMUNITY’S MOVIE WAIT IS OVER AS STER-KINEKOR OPENS NEW CINEMA COMPLEX

State-of-the-art cinemas – including Cine Prestige – promise ‘great moments at their greatest’

South Africa’s leading cinema group is set to open a new, state-of-the-art cinema complex at the revamped Vaal Mall in Vanderbijlpark.  Ster-Kinekor is scheduled to open the doors of the luxurious seven-cinema complex on Wednesday, 15 June. This latest state-of-the-art complex follows hot on the heels of the successful opening of its Mall of Africa cinemas in Midrand, which started trading at the end of April.

“This exciting addition to the entertainment offering that forms part of the expansion to the Vaal Mall is sure to entice movie lovers from the greater Vaal community. The cinemas are a welcome attraction to the area, and Ster-Kinekor is committed to living up to its customer promise of delivering ‘Great Moments at their Greatest’,” says Wanda Matandela, CEO of Ster-Kinekor Theatres.

“Come June 15, we invite the public to enjoy the very latest blockbusters on the big screen in the comfort of our cinemas. Each cinema is fitted with the very latest in digital projection to generate a crisp, clear picture quality and surround sound through the advanced speaker system, to ensure an exceptional cinema experience.”

The complex also offers Ster-Kinekor’s innovative self-service ticketing and catering terminals. Here, customers can buy their movie tickets and select, order and pay for their catering choices online via the terminals, before heading to the catering counter to collect their order. The terminals ensure a streamlined process enabling customers to purchase their tickets and catering with minimal queuing time, before heading into one of the cinemas to watch their movie of choice.

“Another exciting addition to our complex here at Vaal Mall is the introduction of our ‘business class’ cinema offering, in the form of a luxurious Cine Prestige theater,” comments Matandela.

Cinema meets Luxury at Cine Prestige

Cine Prestige is the ‘business-class’ of cinema, and epitomizes film-viewing heaven and pure luxury rolled into one. The 40-seater Cine Prestige cinema offers an exclusive VIP Lounge area. Here, customers can order delicious gourmet platters, a selection of fine wines from Fairview Estate, a variety of craft beers and ciders, imported coffees and decadent cakes.

All this, of course, in addition to the mandatory soft drink or slush and Ster-Kinekor’s delicious freshly-popped popcorn, which can also be served to you at your cinema seat, while you are enjoying the movie.

The large red leather seats are fully reclinable at the touch of a button, and ooze lavish comfort. Each chair is fitted with a snack tray for the platters and refreshments.

The new Ster-Kinekor cinemas at Vaal Mall open their doors to the public on Wednesday, 15 June – and are sure to attract a large crowd on the public holiday on 16 June, as the country celebrates Youth Day and commemorates the 40^th anniversary of the Soweto uprisings.

In honour of this historic day, Ster-Kinekor is bringing a once-off and exclusive free screening of the musical SARAFINA! to its new cinemas at Vaal Mall at 12:00 noon on Thursday, 16 June. Tickets for this special screening are available on a first come, first served basis, and will be available for collection from the cinema from 09:30 that morning.

The films releasing in the first week at the Ster-Kinekor Vaal Mall from Wednesday, 15 June include: the new animation film from Disney Pixar, Finding Dory in 3D; the sci-fi fantasy, Warcraft, based on the popular video game and starring, Ben Foster, Paula Patton and Travis Fimmel; the thriller, Money Monster, featuring George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Jack O’Connell; the action comedy The Nice Guys starring, Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling and Kim Basinger; and the delightfully quirky Alice Through The Looking Glass with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Alan Rickman and Anne Hathaway, among others.
