If you are unable to cast your vote at your voting station on voting day, 3 August, you could apply for a special vote as from 10 June.
The closing date for applications is 17:00 on 8 July.
You may apply if you are physically infirm, disabled or pregnant and cannot travel to your voting station. You will then cast a special vote at your home on 1 and 2 August.
This applies to residents of retirement centres as well as flats and single houses.
If you will be out of town on 3 August, you may visit your voting station on the two previous days to vote, provided you apply for a special vote now.
All registered voters may apply but they must have a green bar-coded ID book, a smart ID card or a valid temporary identity certificate. You apply by submitting an MEC35 form to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) at the Forum Building in Parys.
Completed forms must be hand- delivered, either by the voter or by someone on the voter’s behalf.
DA councillor Shirley Vermaak asks voters requiring special votes to apply as soon as possible to ensure that their applications are captured on the IEC’s internet system.
DA candidates and election helpers will be able to check whether voters are registered, confirm where they should vote and answer queries on special votes, Vermaak said.
Voters who are not registered will not be able to vote in the coming Municipal Election.
