Many yet to register, still chance for those who missed

The final registration weekend for the local government elections, scheduled for 3 August, saw about 12 500 people in this municipal area register as voters, re-register or check that their names are on the voters’ roll.
DA councillor, Saal de Jager is concerned that only about 150 from the present Ward 18 who will now be in Ward 14 re-registered at the Rotary Club hall this weekend and 250 the previous weekend.
Ward 18 has been split into Wards 14 and 15 and combined with wards in Mokwallo in Vredefort. The Rotary Club hall is now the new voting station for those living on the river side of Breë Street, from Noorder Street to Saligna and Vaal de Grace, and on the farms towards Vredefort.
Considering there are about 120 houses in Saligna alone, each with an average of two occupants, it appears that many more people must still re-register.
Current Ward 18 voters living south of Breë Street will stay in Ward 15 and will still vote at the NG Kerk Wes hall. About 390 people visited that voting station last weekend.
People who were unable to visit their voting station over the weekend can still register at the IEC offices in the Forum Building Liebenbergstrek until the local government election date is officially proclaimed. The IEC has urged voters to ensure that their details, espe- cially their addresses, are correct.
