A delegation consisting of the Vanderbijlpark Sakekamer (vice chair Mr Klippies Kritzinger), NAFCOC Sedibeng (secretary Mr Mike Ramajoa), Rosemary Anderson (Tourism Association) and the Vaal branch of the Black Management Forum (BMF deputy chair Mr Peter Verbeek) met with Emfuleni local municipal manager Mr Sam Shabalala to discuss in what manner a recently constituted community forum, the Sedibeng Water, Waste and Sewage Consortium, could assist local government to seek solutions to address and eradicate current challenges that residents of Emfuleni experience with the quality of their drinking water, the efficiency of waste removal and the enormous constraints on the sewage system.

“During this meeting the municipal manager indicated that one of the sewage plants will receive a major financial boost in terms of maintenance and additional capacity.

In addition, negotiations are at a final stage concerning a new and multi-billion rand development within Emfuleni and the Vaal,” Mr Klippies Kritzinger told the media after the meeting.

“The Consortium was requested to continue with its good work because it expressed the will of the residents and their communities to assist government in their quest to provide quality services to the general public,” said Mr Kritzinger of the Sakekamer after the meeting.

* In a subsequent meeting with the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Ms Gretha Hlongwane, the Sakekamer delegation (Vanderbijlpark) met again on April 15 to initiate a process in which the Sedibeng Water, Waste and Sewerage Consortium would formally be included in the stakeholder structure, aiming to help the Emfuleni Local Municipality seek solutions to the various challenges it faces in the provision of quality services concerning water, waste and sewage.

The Executive Mayor said that only through a sound and healthy partnership with business and community entities would local government be able to deliver the quality of services that the general public expects of its government.
