Unprecedented heat wave warning
The Department of Meteorological Services wishes to advise the public of an eminent unprecedented heat wave expected to prevail on Thursday 07th and Friday 08th January 2016. This unprecedented heat wave is expected to break some records.
Temperatures are expected to reach maximums of between 40°C and 43°C. However, the heat wave is expected to ease and see temperatures dropping slightly by about 2°C over most parts of the country from Saturday 09th January 2016 onwards.
Notwithstanding these, isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur with a temperature dropping effect at some places.
The Department therefore advises members of the public to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from these adverse weather conditions. These measures may include among others:
• Drink more water regardless of your activity level.
• Avoid prolonged stay under the sun, if at all possible stay under the shade.
• Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat or umbrella.
The Department will keep monitoring the conditions, and will update the public accordingly.
