Comedians take to the stage to help Driehoek

True to their collective noun, a riot of comedians will be taking to the stage later this month adding their voices to the many from the community in support of victims of the tragedy that took place at Hoërskool Driehoek.  Schalk Bezuidenhout, Prins, Khanyisa Bunu and Kraai du Toit will be joining organiser and supporting act, Craig Caldwell on stage at the Barnyard Vereeniging on Wednesday 13 March 2019, in a comedy showcase that promises an evening of fun and laughter: all for a good cause.

“I grew up 300m from the school,” says Caldwell when asked to explain his motivation for organizing the show. “I used to train and run against the Afrikaans kids,” he smiles, but is suddenly serious when he describes what happened at the school as nothing short of tragic. “It shouldn’t have happened. I think everyone should get behind such initiatives to raise funds, especially with the kids having medical costs going forward.”

Big names

Headlining act, Schalk Bezuidenhout, is a familiar face in every South African household. Hailing from what he calls ‘The New York of the East Rand’, Kempton Park, he describes himself as fun and energetic with an appeal to people of all kinds and colours.

Hot up and coming comedian, Prins has risen to comedic heights winning Parkers Comedy Jive “Comic-Kazi” competition and coming in second place in the Comedy Central “Grab the Mic” competition. His material has been described as innovative and funny for the whole family.

These days she regulars stages such as the Lyric Theatre, Carnival City, the SA State Theatre and even Greenwich Village Comedy club in New York.

Craig Caldwell is a local comedian who has performed internationally and has become a familiar face on Johannesburg and KZN stages. His big heart has seen him organise many such comedy evenings in aid of charities and other worthy causes.
