Nestled within Emerald Resort & Casino is fine dining restaurant and TripAdvisor service excellence award winner High Stakes, the host venue for the Resort’s popular Food & Wine evening on June 30.

“This evening will make guests feel like they’re taking a journey through the vineyards of the family owned Muratie Wine Estate while sampling some of the best culinary delights South Africa has to offer,” says Tanuja Gangabishun, Emerald Resort & Casino’s Marketing Executive. “The Muratie wines have beautiful and poignant stories behind the five wines that will be served on June 30 and each wine pairs melodiously with each course.

For instance, Isabella is a lovely Chardonnay that will accompany the starter of: beetroot gnocchi served with toasted pine nuts and tossed in a herbed goat’s cheese sauce. This particular Chardonnay was named after family members Rijk and Kim Melck’s baby girl Isabella – the picture on the bottle is Isabella’s interpretation of her mother.

The ‘Ronnie Melck’ Shiraz was named after a direct descendant of Martin Melck who bought this gracious wine farm for his daughter in 1763. Ronnie fulfilled a lifelong dream by buying Muratie in 1987 and bringing it back into the Melck fold. With his legendary palate, warm personality and instinctive flair for winemaking, Ronnie is the only owner whose remains rest on Muratie.

This stalwart wine, with floral and berry notes pays tribute to this legendary winemaker and is a brilliant companion to the main course: flame grilled pork medallions served with mustard infused mashed potato, sautéed mushrooms and sugar snap peas, topped with a duo of smoked mushroom and matured cheddar sauce.

“The wines pay tribute to romance, family bonds and triumphs of the Melck family and the Muratie wine estate,” says Tanuja. “I personally can’t decide whether I’m more looking forward to the smoked salmon entree over the beetroot gnocchi starter or if I’ll prefer the lemon and lime posset dessert over the fifth course of brie and fig phyllo parcels. It all sounds delicious!”

Emerald Resort & Casino’s food and wine pairing evenings were introduced to create a setting for friends and families to spend time together, eating great food whilst sipping the best in South African wines.

“I’d urge our guests to book early to avoid disappointment,” she concludes.

The five-course meal with wine pairings will cost R250 per person at High Stakes. Bookings can be made through info@emeraldcasino.co.za or 016 982 8355.
