DVD of the week: No Escape

7/10 for No Escape...

No Escape is an action thriller in which an American businessman, Jack Dwyer (Owen Wilson), his wife Annie (Lake Bell) and their two young daughters move to South-East Asia to begin a new life.
Jack signs a contract to work for an American company that specialises in water systems, little knowing that the prime minister of this country has just been assassinated by a group of rebels.
With communications down, the Dwyers have no idea about the assassination, and that the aim of the rebel uprising is to ultimately kill all foreigners in the country.
The hotel that the Dwyers are staying in is one of the first buildings to be hit by the mob of aggressive rioters. John and his family escape to the roof where other foreigners are hiding, frantically trying to make contact with the outside world, but all cellphone networks have been cut.
This film tells the story of how a family of four normal people have to survive, and eventually escape, a hostile, fictitious South-East Asian dictatorship while a violent uprising threatens their lives at every corner.
With the help of an unknown British traveller named Hammond (Pierce Brosnan), Jack and Annie brave the dangerous streets, protecting their two daughters while trying to find a way of escape.

*No Escape has an age restriction of 16 for violence and strong language throughout the film.*

I would rate this movie 7/10 because, even though the action was great and the film, overall, was thrilling and exciting, the creators could have done more to promote the storyline, and the characters were very one-dimensional.

No Escape is available for rent at DVD4home on the corner of Retief and Govan Mbeki streets.
