SUSPECTS SOUGHT AFTER OFF-DUTY OFFICER WAS WOUNDED

A case of house robbery and attempted murder has been registered for investigation.

The Provincial Organised Crime Unit is seeking assistance from the community in tracing suspects after an off-duty police officer was shot and wounded in Zamdela on 21 September.
The sergeant was at home when he was called by his neighbors to a nearby house where there was an alleged house robbery.
It is alleged that the victims, which include the wife, her husband and their son, were at home when suddenly there was a knock at the door. When they opened the door they were ambushed at gunpoint by three unknown men demanding the husband’s pension money.
The off-duty sergeant went to assist the neighbors and on his way to the said house, he came across one of the suspects at the street corner who managed to escape. When he approached the house, the second suspect started to shoot at him and he retaliated. The sergeant sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the crossfire and was hospitalised.
The suspects fled the scene on foot, and they managed to steal a television, a sound system, bank cards and two cellphones.
A case of house robbery and attempted murder has been registered for investigation.
