THE LIEBENSBBERGVLEI RIVER RACE

Gauteng paddlers enjoy an annual opportunity to participate in a two day river race that takes place on the Liebensbergvlei river, between Reitz and Tweeling

.A 30km section of river full of exciting corners with white water, bumpy wave train, and a few weirs and steep down hill rapids or wave trains to negotiate – past fields of hay, groups of donkeys, or cattle,  through the farmlands in the area!

The water originates from the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, and flows through a tunnel into the Ash river, in Clarens, then flows through Bethlethem and past Reitz/Tweeling/Frankfurt, to the Vaal river when the dam is low.

Peter Geach from Emmarentia Dam canoe club – Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, partnered in a K3 (3 man Kayak) with Kirsty Potts from his club, and invited Sylvia Nel to join them and enjoy the river!

They finished both days successfully finishing day 1 in a time of 2 hours 27 minutes, and day 2 in 2 hours 30 minutes, and finished the race as the 2nd “Mixed Double”  (male and female combination), and as the 3rd Sub Master age category (over 45 but under 50 years)!
