Foreigners arrested for murder on R76

The two men will appear in court again on Wednesday 31 May for a formal bail application.

Two foreigners who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of the 33 year old Mr Jamali Ayano, appeared in the Viljoenskroon Magistrate Court on Wednesday 24 May.  Fikru Karabo (40) and Abe Lafamo (28) were arrested on a charge of murder after they were linked to the murder scene by their blood stained shoes.

The arrest followed after police received a complaint on Sunday, 21 May about a possible hijacking of Mr Jamali Ayano on the R76 Viljoenskroon road.

Upon arrival at the scene, the police found a white Toyota Corolla standing on the side of the road. The left rear window was broken and there were bloodstains in the vehicle.

There was no one in the vehicle and the police, with the help of community members, started searching the nearby field. They found the deceased and identified him as Mr Jamali Ayano lying on the ground facing down. The deceased sustained open wounds on the head and a gunshot wound on the left side of the neck. He was declared dead by emergency services on the scene.
