Cataract marathon gives them the chance to see again

The Fezile Dabi District Health Services is currently working on a plan to manage eye care services in the district. More information will be communica-ted as soon as it is available.

A Cataract Marathon took place at the Parys District Hospital last weekend, starting on Friday, 19 May. A total of 120 patients from Parys, Vredefort, Koppies, Heilbron, Viljoenskroon, Sasolburg and Kroonstad, who were on the waiting list at the Eye Clinic at Boitumelo Regional Hospital, were screened – 60 of whom were prioritised for surgery.

Over the weekend, 57 cataract removals and lens replacements were done. Seven patients had to be referred for continuous monitoring. All 57 patients will be followed up at the Eye Clinic after four to five weeks.

The team who helped to make the cataract marathon possible are (in front) Dr Scholtz, Dr Dannheimer and PN Edward Mashau. Behind them are PN Mcebisi Mathebula, PN William Matibako, PN Martha Menza, OPM Lydia Pieterse and ENA Francinah Mbambo.
