After over a year, 45-year-old Williemien Landman is still waiting for a hip replacement. The single mom from Parys was seriously injured when a motorist did not stop at a stop sign and knocked her off her scooter. For months, she has not been able to work or provide for her three children.
Ever since the terrible accident in December 2021, the South African state health and hospital services have let Willemien down.

She was in the hospital for months and suffered several botched operations, resul- ting in infections and surgical failures.

The hospitals sent her home, and after repeat visits, the hip replacement surgery has still not been performed, leaving her in constant pain, in bed or in a wheelchair.

In September, she has to be back at the hospital for a CT scan, but, to date, no date for the hip replacement has been given, nor answers to the way forward.

Her career as a veterinary assistant, caring for animals, has now been placed on hold indefinitely.

From being able to work and care for her children and herself, she has been forced to cope with becoming utterly dependent on the charity of others.
The state has let her down on so many levels that Willemien now needs to turn to others for help to try and get the surgery she needs privately.
Although her life will never be the same again, surgery will enable her to return to some normality and, hopefully, a life without pain, with some dignity and the hope of being able to continue raising her children.

A BackaBuddy campaign was started for Willemien in March of this year.

Until now, she has only managed to raise R5,072.65 of the R120 000 needed for her operation.
