New pipeline to be constructed to improve water distribution

The mayor confirmed that the R66 million needed for upgrading at the water plant has been approved by department of water affairs and sanitation, and the work was expected to commence in April. The construction cost of the new pipeline is not part of the R66 milion allocated by the department for the purification plant.

The Ngwathe local municipality last week officially launched the construction of a new pipeline from the water purification plant to reservoir 1 in the heart of Tumahole at the Ghana section. Excavation for the pipeline started on Wednesday, 22 February, the municipality said.
The pipeline will be constructed by the internal municipal water team and aims to improve water distribution to most parts of Tumahole and Parys.
It is estimated that the project will take at least six months to complete. The new pipeline will start from the old plant.
During the launch of the project, the Ngwathe executive mayor, Ms Victoria de Beer, sent a word of gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the project, and thanked community leaders for the role they played in getting the community involved in the project.

Municipal spokesperson, Mr Steve Naale, said the technical team would continue monitoring the development of the project. Mr Mokete Phele, the manager responsible for water services and operations, emphasised that this was not the only project being launched, and that they would embark on other projects with internal municipal water teams in an effort to solve water supply problems in the whole of Ngwathe.
At the launch, the mayor also confirmed that the muncipality had already started fi-xing filters at the purification plant as a MIC (Cogta) project. She said it would take about two months to complete the filter project, working on eight of the 12 filters at the plant.
