Town’s main street to be a hive of activity for Crater Street Mile

Over R50,000 in cash is up for grabs, making this one of the more attractive road races in terms of the prize purse.

The Rotary Club of Parys, in conjunction with Parys Info and Tourism, are presenting the first-ever race of its kind – the Parys Crater Street Mile on Wednesday, 15 February.
This street mile will be a race for one and all, from elite athletes, rising young stars and families to corporates who will take on the challenge on the town’s main street.
Former 800 m Olympic silver-medalist Hezekiel Sepeng is one of the ambassadors for the race and will bring some of SA’s top elite and rising star athletes to participate in the street mile.
Among the top athletes taking on the challenge are SA’s No. 1 and 2 athletes in the 1,500 m, Nkhosinathi Sibiya and Christopher Swart. Over R50,000 in cash is up for grabs, making this one of the more attractive road races in terms of the prize purse. The elite race winners will each receive R10,000. Medals will also be awarded to all finishers. Races start from 15:00, with the elite races kicking off at 17:30. Athletes will run a distance of 1,6 km, with kids running a distance of 0,8 km.

Remember, part of the main street of Parys will be closed for the duration of the street mile, and traffic will be diverted via Loop and Van Coller streets.
Also, note that shops on Breë Street will be open during the event.

The organisers aim to host over 700 participants and gather the local community, businesses and clubs to take part in the fun race activities.
According to the organisers, the Parys Crater Street Mile will be an annual event on the town’s calendar. The yearly race’s goal is to raise funds to support local charities and promote Parys as a tourist
destination.
