Parys Multisport announces new athletics coach

Athletics is for everyone, and Parys Multisport encourages all to pursue their dreams, follow their passion, and live healthy lives.

Megan Merricks is Parys Multisport’s new assistant athletics sprint coach. Megan passed her Athletics South Africa Level-1 coaching exam on 29 October and received her official ASA certification on 17 November 2022.
She has been training under Pierre Fourie, chairperson and head coach of Parys Multisport, since May 2019, when she joined the club. Megan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to athletics as an athlete and a coach.
She competes and specialises in the 100 m and 200 m sprint disciplines and is a familiar face on the Cross Country Running scene, where she spends most of her time during the track off-season.
When I first met Megan more than four years ago, she was a bit of an underdog, coming from a history of coaches who tried to convince her that she would never be successful as an athlete.
With a lot of hard work, admirable commitment, and support from her family and friends, she has mentally, physically, and academically evolved into one of the stron- gest athletes (and now coach) I know.
From a coaching perspective, she has strong intuition and a keen eye for the biomechanics and technique required to run fast.
I feel confident in my prediction that she will introduce many great athletes into the athletics arena.
We are very privileged to have her, and I look forward to working with her,” says Pierre.
Athletics is for everyone, and Parys Multisport encourages all to pursue their dreams, follow their passion, and live healthy lives. Parys Multisport serves the sports community in and around Parys and endeavours to make athletics accessible to all.
