AfriForum last week mobilised a convoy, existing of members of 18 branches in the eastern part of the Free State and Gauteng South, to support the community of Senekal with the water crisis currently experienced in the town. This follows after AfriForum was informed on 29 April that the town’s municipal water is dirty and undrinkable. It was later informed that no water was available anymore.

“The convoy existed of approximately 35 vehicles that departed from Sasolburg and Bethlehem respectively to Senekal, where water tanks were filled at, amongst others, the Engo Bejaardesorg, Mount Zion Primary School, Hoërskool Paul Erasmus, Laerskool Senekal and the old commando offices. A large quantity of water was also delivered to the Mtembo neighbourhood,” said Hendrik Oosthuizen, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for the Free State.

During the next phase of this do-it-yourself initiative, AfriForum will approach the Department of Water and Sanitation to find solutions for this crisis in cooperation with the Setsoto Local Municipality.

Thanks to all Parysenaars who took part in helping the community of Senekal.
