In December, Lisa de Speville, founder and director of the AdventureLisa’s Forest Run moved to Parys. After a lovely lunch at the Venterskroon Inn, with the hills of the Vredefort Dome meteorite impact crater as a backdrop, Lisa decided to move her Forest Run event from the pine plantation of Lakenvlei in the Dullstroom area to the Koepel. The AdventureLisa’s Forest Run will take place on Saturday 21 May. Entry deadline is Saturday 7 May.
Since January, Lisa has spent a lot of time in the area to scout old hiking trails, animal paths and rough vehicle tracks to create interesting routes that show off the charms of the area. There are ascents and descents, rocky paths, rugged tracks and valleys and kloofs that are sheltered from the sun by dense natural forest. Lisa has created three courses: 16-km, 30-m and 46-km.
“The 16-kilometre route has diversity in terrain with both difficult and easy sections. The 30-kilometre route takes it up a notch with more distance and even more variety. But it is the 46-kilometre route that will completely impress runners.
“ I thought I had a good feel for the vegetation and terrain of the area till I got to this section. It is even more and more and more than I expected,” Lisa says.
This new Forest Run takes place in the Vredefort Dome area, just outside the town of Parys. Its base is the Venterskroon Inn in Venterskroon, a historic gold-mining settlement.
