The deputy minister in the Presidency, Ms Thembi Siweya, visited the Ratang Maqheku Shelter for the Aged in Tumahole on Friday, 15 July. She handed out blankets as part of the Mandela Month Winter Warmer Drive.
“In his life as an activist and the first democratic president of the country, Nelson Mandela constantly inspired and encouraged South Africans to work in the service of humanity. The Mandela Month Winter Warmer Drive is part of our contribution towards maintaining the legacy that former President Mandela bequeathed to the country and the inter-national community,” Ms Siweya said.
The gesture is aimed at conscientising and mobilising stakeholders to play their part in changing the living conditions of other people.
This year’s Mandela Month theme is: ‘Do what you can, with what you have, where you are’.
