Rotary encourages Youth Leadership

The Rotary Club of Parys holds an annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp. This year it was held from March 10th to 13th at Life Adventures Outdoor Education Centre on the Vaal Eden Road outside Parys.

The Rotary Club of Parys holds an annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp. This year it was held from March 10th to 13th at Life Adventures Outdoor Education Centre on the Vaal Eden Road outside Parys.
A total of 89 learners attended sponsored by Rotary Clubs from as far away as Kimberley. Twelve attendees were from the local area.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth. It aims to demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth, provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders and encourage leadership of youth by youth
The weekend was a time for personal growth and development, leadership training and a whole lot of fun for those who attended. The programme included: swimming, hiking, leadership training, “Potjie Kos”, RYLA Game Drive and survival adventure activities.
Thanks to Life Adventures and their staff and Venezia Maclones, Manager at FNB in Parys, who gave a talk on Finance to the attendees.
The camp will be run again next year. It is open to Grade 10 and 11 students aged be-tween 15 and 17 who have not been on a previous RYLA Camp.
