DVD of the week: Burnt

7/10 for Burnt...

A word of advice: don’t watch this movie if you’re hungry… you will get even hungrier and start hating your life because you will probably never be lucky enough to taste the amazing food presented right in front of you.
Burnt is a drama about an amazing top chef, Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) who has lost everything due to his bad habits and even worse personality traits. He used to work only in the best restaurants of Paris but, when drugs and alcohol take a hold of him, they put a stop to his career and take those of some of his friends down with him, too.
After punishing himself in New Orleans for some years while sobering up, he decides to return to Paris with a plan to regain his former glory and earn his third Michelin star.
Back in Paris, he reunites with some of his old colleagues and starts a new restaurant. Unfortunately, being back in Paris awakens memories of Adam’s unpleasant past.
In this film, he realises that it’s not that easy to just try again, and the choices of your past certainly influence your future.
This emotional rollercoaster of great food and elite people will have you either wishing you were a part of it or thanking the stars that you aren’t. Either way, the film is dramatic and the emotions run high.
You will not be bored easily, but might be shocked by how trusting someone, can be your downfall.
In this film, you will learn that your actions and attitude towards others can either make or break your life goals.

*Burnt has a age restriction of 16 for strong language throughout the film. Parental guidance is advised for younger viewers.*
I would rate this movie 7/10.
Burnt is available for rent at DVD4home on the corner of Retief and Govan Mbeki Streets. Tel: 018 293 3895.
