Police retrieve body out of Wilge River

Mafube –  Police divers retrieved a body of a 21 year old man out of the Wilge River on Wednesday, 23 March 2022 at about 13:30.
The search resumed on Tuesday 22 March 2022 after reports that a man  who was fishing on Saturday, 19 March 2022, has drowned.
A witness pointed out that a man sat near the river bank. After a while he  went into the water and tried to swim across the river and  drowned. Welkom Water Wing were summoned to start searching on Tuesday, 22 March 2022.
The man was identified by his father as Lerato Mofokeng of Mamello Section, Namahadi in Frankfort, after retrieval of the body .
The body had no visible injuries  and no foul play was suspected. An inquest docket was opened for further investigation which will lead to a postmortem to determine the cause of death.
