Accident on R54 leaves mother dead, child critical

A woman was killed and a 5-year-old girl injured when their vehicle rolled on the R54 between Potchefstroom and Fochville on Thursday 17 March.

According to ER24’s spokesperson, Russel Meiring, paramedics from this service arrived on the scene at 13h30 to find a light motor vehicle on the side of the road. A woman and a five-year-old girl were found lying a short distance away while a girl, believed to be twelve years old, was walking around on the scene. Medics assessed the patients and found that the woman had already succumbed to numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for her, and she was declared dead. The five-year-old girl was in a critical condition, while the twelve-year-old girl had escaped with minor injuries. The young girl was treated and provided with advanced life support before being airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital. The other girl was transported privately to the hospital for further care. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
