Authorities are currently on the scene of a collision between a truck and car on the R59 behind Vaalpark, Sasolburg, that has claimed the lives of at least two people. It is understood that the car caught alight after a head on collision. When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found the car wedged under the truck and well alight. Some of the maize meal being transported by the truck had fallen on the car.
Fire and Rescue Services from Sasolburg extinguished the fire.
Two people who were found trapped in the car had sustained severe burn wounds.
Sadly there was nothing that could be done for them. The truck driver was uninjured. Authorities are removing the maize meal and other possible obstructions around the car to determine if there were more people involved in the incident. Please be cautious when driving in this direction.
