Pensioner dies after being shot in robbery

“After I heard gunshots, I waited for the robbers to go and then I went to go and see what had happened, only to find that Gogo had been shot. “She could not talk or breathe properly. I did not touch her because I was scared that I would hurt her, so I called for help.”

SHARPEVILLE. – A 65-year-old pensioner Primrose ‘Madlamini’ Jonas was shot in cold blood in front of her grand-daughter (6) and grandson (11 months). Madlamini died in the early hours of Sunday after she was admitted to Sebokeng Hospital.

Madlamini had been renting out an outside room in Rooistene for over 20 years.Neighbours who had lived with Madlamini for years could not believe what had happened.
According to one of the victims, the robbers entered the main house, demanded money and valuables right before they proceeded to Madlamini’s room:
“I cannot really say why they shot Gogo, because there were three of them and they could have easily overpowered her. It is even more surprising that they tried to rob us. We don’t have money and Gogo also did not have money. “After I heard gunshots, I waited for the robbers to go and then I went to go and see what had happened, only to find that Gogo had been shot. “She could not talk or breathe properly. I did not touch her because I was scared that I would hurt her, so I called for help.”
The victim adds that he called the police and an ambulance immediately. Madlamini’s daughter could not hold back her tears:
“I struggle to understand why someone so old could be shot. We have lost a woman who was everything to us. We will Jnever be able to forget our mother’s tragic death.”
Madlamini will be buried next week in the Eastern Cape. Sharpeville Police are investigating.
