Burnt-out car with body in boot belonged to NWU staff member

Potchefstroom Herald reports that the burnt-out car, with the burned body of a man in its boot found in Klipgat, 40 km north-west of Pretoria, belonged to Sam Mbatha, a North-West University (NWU) staff member who works as a social media officer at the Mahikeng Campus.

The car with the body was found at a soccer field in the Ikageng Section of Klipgat after the police were informed last Thursday (17 June) at 7:00.

Col Adéle Myburgh, media spokesperson of the police in the North-West, confirmed the car belonged to Mbatha, but that the identity of the body could not be established since it was burnt beyond recognition. “It is suspected that it could possibly be the owner of the vehicle, who has been missing since the incident was reported, but only DNA testing can confirm this”, says Myburgh.

Anyone with information that can assist the police is requested to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Thabo Sekgororoana on cell: 082 520 1588. Alternatively, you can contact your local police station, anonymously contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app on your smartphone.
