Thumbs up for Ngwathe officials acknowledging concerns

This letter serves to thank the two staff members of the Ngwathe Municipality who coordinated the grass cutting in Allenby Street at my request on 13 May 2021.

Thank you to Phumzile and Nthabeleng, who acknowledged my concerns about the dangers of any imminent veld fires that usually take place in this area in midwinter. For as long as I can remember (10 years), whenever this vacant plot near the rose tunnels caught fire, deliberately or otherwise, it was always the residents who came to the rescue of the plant and animal life. As a resident living close to Allenby, it is of great concern to me that the grass that is lying in the gutters is removed while winter is still with us.

There needs to be a clear passage for water to flow when the summer rains start. The servitude along Allenby and those in the vacant veld are also the responsibility of Ngwathe Municipality because, without regular mainte- nance, they cause huge problems like blockages in underground pipes. I can safely say it appears that the servitude opposite No. 16A Allenby has not been cleared of reeds and other debris for many years.

My thanks to Phumzile and Nthabeleng for your cooperation and for taking note of the environmental concerns we both spoke about on 1 April 2021 when we met for the first time.
