Daily Lotto – I have won a prize; how do I claim it?

The following ways to claim a prize are some of the popular ways that players obtain their tickets

Other means also include claiming through the post, or by telephone. However, these methods are not as common as those covered in this article, although the claiming procedures are similar.

Prizes won through a Retailer

Players who have purchased their Daily Lotto tickets through a store or retailer that offers lottery ticket purchases must ensure that, upon purchase, they fill in the back of their slip. The details that the player needs to provide includes their ID number and their residential address.

Up to R2,000

Players who have won a prize up to R2,000 can claim their prize from any licensed lottery retailer across the country. This involves taking the physical ticket to the retailer and collecting the winnings over the counter. All retailers must pay out up to R50.00. However, there are some who are willing to pay out up to R5,000 and others who use their own discretion.

R2,0001 to R49,999.99

Players who have won more than R2,000 but less than R50,000 are required to redeem their prize from an authorized payment centre, which is often a local post office.

Prizes of R50,000 and more

Should players have won R50,000 or more, the player is required to fill in an official Prize Claim Form that can be obtained from any post office. The player must then visit one of the Ithuba regional offices to collect the winnings in person once the entry has been validated. The payment method for participating retailers is cash and the payment time is immediate. However, when claiming from post offices and Ithuba’s regional offices, the funds will be electronically transferred, or a cheque will be written, and the payment time varies from 72 hours with an electronic transfers and up to 10 working days with cheques.

Prizes which are won through an online provider

It is much easier and more convenient to claim prizes when players have purchased their tickets through an online provider. Often, players do not have to claim their prize manually as they are notified of their win and the funds are automatically transferred to their account.

Up to R49,999.99

Online prizes that are less than R50,000 will be transferred directly into the online account that the player holds with their provider without any identification requirements.

Prizes of R50,000 and more

Should the player have won R50,000 and more, they must complete the official Prize Claim Form which must be taken to one of the regional Ithuba offices in person. This involves the entry being validated and the identity of the player confirmed according to anti-fraud policies.

Prizes won through a Bank

When entering the Daily Lotto through any Bank which offers the purchase of tickets such as FNB, Standard Bank, or Nedbank, players can have their winnings deposited into their account. However, only winnings that are less than R50,000 will be deposited directly. Should the player win R50,000 or more, they must complete the Prize Claim Form and follow the procedure with validation and verification at an Ithuba regional office.
