Man critically injured by high voltage cable

A man (48) was left critically injured on Saturday (7 November) morning when he was electrocuted by a high voltage cable on a municipal community farm on the R54 between Potchefstroom and Vereeniging.

According to the spokesperson of ER24, Russel Meiring, the emergency services arrived on the scene at 09:45  and found the man sitting in the veld. The man and several cattle had been electrocuted by one of the high voltage cables running over their land, which had collapsed.

The medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained serious burn wounds and was in critical condition. The man was treated and provided with several advanced life support interventions before he was transported to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
