Drakensberg Boys Choir auditions in Potchefstroom

Auditions for the world-famous Drakensberg Boys Choir will be held at Potchefstroom Gimnasium High School’s Music Centre (Thabo Mbeki Way) on Friday, 25 September. Boys with potentially great singing voices between the ages of 9 and 14 are invited to take part.

The mission of the Drakensberg Boys Choir School, founded in 1967, is to prepare boys for life and leadership through excellence in music, academics, physical development, and social enrichment, in a Christian environment. It is known to be the only choir school on the African continent that uses choral music as a significant vehicle for holistic education.

To top it all off, this special boarding school is nestled in one of the world’s major heritage sites, the mighty Okhahlamba (Drakensberg) Mountain range. It provides, not only training and performances in choral, contemporary, and pop singing but also African folklore music and choreographed movement.

The school allows boys the opportunity to experience a vibrant outdoor life with cycling, swimming, and hiking, integral to the curriculum. The auditions are scheduled from 14:00 to 16:00 and participants don’t need to prepare anything. For more information, contact Anja Viljoen at 018 293 0267.
