Covid-19: More deaths among men

Although more women are infected with Covid-19 (61 per cent), statistics show that 50 per cent of deaths are recorded among men. Another interesting fact is that the median (IQR) age of Covid-19 deaths is 62 (54–72) years. The majority of deaths fall within the age group of 55 to 64 years. On 4 September, the Free State province had 322 new cases, of which 176 were in the Manguang Metro, 30 in Fezile Dabi, 44 in the Thabo Mofut- sanyana district, 49 in Lejweleputswa and 22 in Xhariep.

By then, the total of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province was 39,192 with 26,457 (68 per cent) recoveries. The prevalence among the <20 years is 11 per cent. The median (IQR) age of cumulative Covid-19 cases is 40 (29–52) years. Of the 757 deaths reported in the Free State on 4 September, the highest case fatality rate was reported in the Lejweleputswa District.
