Sewage flowing down Sarafina Street towards the N12 made Lebogang Nkopane (27) from Extension 11, journey to work particularly unpleasant. According to him, the sewage has been a problem for the past three months but the respective officials attended to it. The recent spillage lasted for about two weeks.
“I usually have to stop and wait for cars to stop before I could cross the street. For fear of getting wastewater splashed on me and risk becoming sick,” he said.
Paul Qenene (55), also from Extension 11, walks near the N12 on his way to work. Whenever the sewage pours onto the road, at times he’s compelled to walk on the National road just to make sure he does not get splashed by passing cars.
The Municipality was contacted for comment, but no response was provided. The Herald went to check the site earlier this week and the spillage has stopped.
