Chairs and tables on the street all over South Africa as restaurant owners and their staff took to the streets today to make their voices heard for the #Jobssavelives campaign.

More than a million seats, inviting  President Cyril Ramaphosa today, Wednesday 22 July  to take a seat at an empty table to experience first hand what the lockdown had done to the Restaurant and Hospitality Industry that have been hard hit

Also  in Parys – a town completely reliant on visitors from other provinces, restaurant owners are desperate now for government to listen to them.

Empty tables and chairs alongside the town’s main road gave the picture of the hardship the town has suffered up to now.

A vibrant town that used to be the hub of excitement for the many visitors that made the town came to live every weekend. Since lockdown started in March some of these restaurants already had to close their doors.

Restaurant owner, Sandra Uys from the Plum Tree Restaurant, says what could have been considered a busy Sunday during lockdown, they only had 20% the past Sunday of what they used to have on a Sunday.

La Vie & Rose owner, Corien Pretorius, and her personnel also made their voices heard joined by the ladies from La Vie “Hookers” who crochet on the stoep of La Vie every Wednesday.

While restaurants and local businesseses are now mostly dependent on the support of residents – please remember that your town needs your support now.

They need to know that you are backing them in their fight to survive during the Covid-19 pandemic.
