“Food security has been a challenge during the national lockdown. We are proud of the difference we have been able to make in our communities alongside Gift of the Givers, Moqhaka and Ngwathe local municipalities, community leaders and various stakeholders in providing food to vulnerable members of our society at this time.”
“We go in, bring change and leave hope.”
That was the message of De Beers Group Voorspoed Mine in supporting the government’s efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 through various initiatives to ensure the sustainability of communities through the national lockdown and beyond.
On 4 June, De Beers once again donated 500 food parcels to Ngwathe, for distribution to all five Ngwathe towns, i.e. Parys, Vredefort, Edenville, Koppies and Heilbron.
The executive mayors of both Moqhaka and Ngwathe municipalities received the food parcels before they were allocated to identified beneficiaries from the informal settlements and child-headed families.
Cllr Joey Mochela, the executive mayor of Ngwathe Local Municipality, thanked De Beers Group and Gift of the Givers for taking care of vulnerable members of society. She also acknowledged various local stakeholders that came together to lend a helping hand.
