New Covid-19 cases can affect the opening of schools in Merafong

During a visit to two schools in Garankuwa, north of Pretoria, to check on their readiness to open next week, Lesufi indicated that he was particularly concerned about schools in Wedela following the newly reported cases.

“If there is one area that we are worried about it’s that one, because there are workers from the mine who tested positive – 162 miners. I spoke to the MEC (for Health) as well.

We will seek guidance from them as well on whether the schools in that area should be opened or not. We will be guided by the MEC for Health, and also be guided by the Premier,” says Lesufi.

He further indicated that the tests will also have to be run before a decision can be made.
