VUT employee tests positive for Covid-19

The Human Resources, Information Technology, and Finance department of the Vaal University of Technology will work from home until further notice, after an employee of the Vanderbijlpark Campus tested positive for Covid-19.

The employee is currently receiving and responding well to treatment in an intensive care unit. VUT’s Covid-19 task team reacted quickly to isolate and close the areas the infected worker had contact with. According to a letter sent out by Mike Khurbani, Executive Director: Advancement today employees from the HR, IT, and Finance as well as a labor representative who had been in contact with the infected employee were advised to undergo testing.

Thus far eight staff members have tested negative and another eight will receive their test results on Monday, May 18. The three department buildings (HR, IT, and Finance) will again be sanitized this coming week. VUT’s buildings, satellite campuses, and residences were recently sanitized to salvage the academic year.

“At this point, management wishes to appeal to all members of staff and students not to panic as the situation is firmly under control.  Management will keep staff and students informed of developments on this matter. Once more VUT management calls for calmness among staff members and students alike as the matter is being attended to,” reads the letter.
