Over 207,000 demand price cut from DStv

In an online petition on change.org was started by Sifiso J Gwala over 207,000 people had signed the online petition demanding a price drop or a payment holiday for the duration of the lockdown.

Gwala took action and started an online petition, stating “DStv drops prices for the rest of Africa except South Africa and now this. We’re being taken for granted here #DstvMustFall”.

Sharing their reasons for signing the petition, many lamented the lack of new content and being unable to pay for the service during the lockdown.

Olwetu Samka wrote: Dstv is milking us, more than that it repeat shows I need something fresh not this.

Noreen Bathurst: Why must I pay to watch repeats over & over again.

Vivien Wessels: DSTV premiums are too high in the light of the many repeats on all channels – especially during lockdown this becomes very noticeable. Quality of the movie channels is declining by the day.

MultiChoice said: “The company is always looking to provide great value-adds for customers at various time of the year, most recently during the current Covid-19 period, which includes channels being opened up to more customers at lower DStv bouquets and pop-up channels.”

DStv Compact subscribers have since got free May bouquet upgrade.

Until the end of May DStv Compact subscribers in South Africa will be able to watch additional TV channels available to DStv Compact Plus subscribers and above, including 1Magic, M-Net Binge, Comedy Central, kykNET, Africa Magic Urban Movies, CBS Justice, Curiosity Stream, History, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., CBeebies, MTV Music, SuperSport 8, SuperSport 12, SuperSport 13, and Sky News.

M-Net execs have also decided to extend its M-Net Binge Home of HBO (DStv 114) pop-up channel with a further two months for DStv Premium and DStv Compact Plus subscribers with the channel that will now run until Sunday 28 June.
