Protest over food in Khutsong

Residents desperate for food blocked the entrance to Extension 3.

Residents of Khutsong Extension 3 started to protest because they are not getting food parcels this morning.

A group of about 50 men and women closed the main entrance to Extension 3 with burning tyres.

Several residents with whom the Herald spoke complained that although they followed the correct channels to contact the Department of Social Services since the beginning of the lockdown, they are getting desperate because they just don’t get any help.

Most of the people are reliant upon “piece jobs” to make a living and say that they get arrested by the police if they go around to try to get work or ask for food in other areas.
