DCSTM urges road users to adhere to regulations when travelling

The travel window period commenced on Friday, 01 May until Thursday, 07 May. Travelling is only allowed once-off. Long distance buses and taxi operators are allowed to undertake long distance travel during this period.

In a statement, MEC Lehari encouraged those who will be traveling to adhere to the level 4 regulations and restrictions. “Law enforcement officers will be on our roads to ensure strict adherence.
“The travelling window period calls for intensive measures and commitment of every citizen to comply with regulations. This is an actual trial period to test how disciplined we are as citizens,” said MEC Lehari.

According to Alpheus Koonyaditse, the Departmental Spokesperson, operating hours for road-based public transport are 05:00-19:00 (with a grace period of an hour to complete their trips). “It is important for operators to note that they are not allowed on the roads between 20:00 and 05:00. Once more operators are advised to adhere strictly to these hours,” he added.

Public transport operators are reminded to comply with the 70 per cent passenger capacity. Also, the driver and all passengers must sanitise, have their masks on at all times, and before and after trips, the vehicles must be disinfected.

MEC Lehari further hoped that the travelling period will be accident-free. “We don’t expect people to travel with excitement and end up in unnecessary accidents. Let us all be responsible and be safe on the roads. Let us all be safe from Covid-19”.
