Jojo tanks and water tankers promised to bring relief

Following last weekā€™s visit to the Parys Water Purification Plant by Mr David Mahlobo, Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, flushing of the underground network and the unblocking of old water meters have started as part of water conservation in Parys.
Water management in general, the implementation of a calibration system at all points necessary, better security at the plant to minimise theft and vandilism, risk appraisal en more efficient managent of the plant and water system, cleaning of canals to optimize raw water availability and quantity, and the introduction of a pretreatment plant, all forms part of urgent measures agreed on last week between the Deputy Minister, Ngwathe Executive Mayor Joey Mochela and stakeholders.
Ngwathe Municipal Spokesperson, Steve Naale, on Monday confirmed that the trident plant at the Parys Water Purification Plant is still out op operation. Seventeen new Jojo water tanks and the promise of more water tankers will now be made available as temporary relief for residents without water.
Naale said the technical team is consulting with various service providers and manufacturers to fix the trident plant, including aspects such as general refurbishment and maintenance. The trident plant when in operation, can supply another 10 megalitres of water per day for Parys, and has been out of operation since December 2019.
Sedibeng Water hasĀ  been appointed as implementing agent responsibe for project management, with the main focus on operations, budgets, human resources and action plans.
Naale also confirmed that stricter security at the Water Purification Plant has now been implemented on a 24 hour basis.
The Municipal Manager, Mr Bruce Kannemeyer also engaged with the Sedibeng Water CEO on Monday and agreed that the next task team meeting will highlight progress. The Department of Water and Sanitation will be advised on appropriate procurement mechanisms, he said.
Mahlobo during his visit last week said that the Ngwathe Municipality are fortunate that the community has been so tolerant up to now with regard to water supply.
He pinpointed serious issues at the Parys Water Purification Plant and said that the whole problem starts with how the plant is managed.
