After serious concern about water issues within the Ngwathe Munici-pality, the Ngwathe Mayor has esta- blished a Water Task Team to oversee the management of problems.
The inception meeting was briefed on water challenges the municipality is facing, and the possible interven-tions required to resolve water challenges in all five towns of the municipality.
The team is led by the Municipal Manager, based on feedback from investigations supported by the Randwater investigation, initiated by the Municipality, and the Cogta investigation that was done through African Engineering.
The latter study performed a hydraulic modelling that generated information to improve and optimise the present infrastructure.
The task team agreed to narrow their focus on short-term interven- tions needed to resolve the water challenges. Their main focus was on water quality and quantity, and a quick response to interruptions, infra- structure security, and improved communication.
The meeting agreed that there was an urgent need to do a water demand assessment and water conservation in all towns to maximise the limited resources.
The task team meeting is open for input from interested parties through the municipal communication unit. Interested parties can send an email requesting attendance to jordaanr@ngwathe. co.za. The next meeting is on 18 December 2019.
