Armed robbers hit supermarket twice

According to the owner of the business, Mr Rick de Gouvea, about ten men stormed into the shopping centre at around 18:48 on Tuesday.

“The suspects immediately proceeded to point firearms at the cashiers and supervisors, ordering them to open the tills and lie down.
One supervisor did not get down quickly enough and was subsequently shot in the leg with a 9 mm pistol. A secu- rity guard was pistol-whipped twice on the head,” he says.
Most of the suspects were heavily armed, with one of them even brandishing an R5 rifle with an extra magazine taped to it. The suspects robbed the supermarket and liquor store and got away with cash and valuables to the value of about R30,000.
They escaped on foot in the direction of Elandsridge Village.
Six men robbed the same business at around 19:20 on Saturday.
“The suspects reverse parked their silver Volkswagen Polo near the entrance to the supermarket.
They wandered around the centre for about 18 minutes before announcing an armed robbery at 19:38,” he says.
All the men were armed and grabbed money with their left hands while holding their weapons.
The suspects fired several shots while making their escape. One of the bullets grazed a security guard, who was taken to Carletonville Hospital and discharged later.
The thugs robbed the supermarket and liquor store and got away with cash and valuables worth about R50,000.
All the suspects escaped to Blyvooruitsig Village in the silver Polo.
