According to the communication officer of the police in Carletonville, WO Peter Masooa, the manager was busy in the shop at around 09:00 on 4 September. He suddenly heard a loud greeting at the door and everyone turned to look where the din was coming from. A man suddenly pulled out a firearm and instructed the manager and three cashiers to go to the back of the store. It soon became clear that the suspect had four accomplices, three of whom were also armed. They instructed an employee to open a safe containing cell phones at the back of the store.

They also asked him to open the safe where the money was kept but he explained that a security company had the key.
The suspects then grabbed several cell phones and clothing estimated to be worth around R200,000.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects fled in a white Volkswagen Polo and silver Chevrolet Aveo.
