Originally the brain-child of Rebecca Kerkhoff from Germany and Dr Almud Lena Pollmeier, who brought the initiative to Parys, Positive Souls is making a difference in local lives.
In just two weeks, Positive Souls opened a factory in Tumahole and established a curio shop in the Parys Museum.
Positive Souls is a sustainable, fair-trade project that aims to produce eco-products like organic cotton bags and naturally dyed organic T-shirts. Women from Tumahole make the products and everyone is paid a fair salary.
To guarantee the continued production of the goods, Dr Lena Pollmeier still lives in Parys. She has to ensure that every woman receives the proper training to make great products. Diane van Nieuwenhuyzen, Theresa Ntloko and Iris Andrew are there to support her. Iris is also the friendly host of their curio shop in the Parys Museum.
Parys Museum will be open between 09:00 and 13:00 on Friday and Saturday mornings – the ideal time to drop in with out-of-towners to support the Positive Souls project.
