Take part... take a message

If a message “speaks” to you – break it off. Keep it as a memento and a symbol of breaking that “mountain” that binds you.
This was the Edge of Reason, the idea behind more than 400 cards that formed part of the artist, Deon Terblanche’s remarkable Easter Installation Art in the main street of Parys last weekend.
The cards were suspended by red wool, symbolising the blood of Jesus for Easter. They engaged passers-by and tourists to the town over the notoriously busy Easter weekend, to take part and take a message.
Deon’s love for landscape art that disintegrates and disappears over time made him think how he could make a large installation that would be interactive and touch people. He accessed pre-punched plastic cards on which he put personal, encouraging messages and blessings. Some he wrote himself, while others were written by some of Parys’s most significant churches.
He hung the inspiring messages in Afrikaans, English and Sotho in the bustling main road. The cards will still hang at shops in the main street after Easter, and as people take part and take messages, the cards will be replaced. Godlife Church, NG Oos, Hervormde Kerk Parys, Every Nation, AGS Sion, Plum Tree Restaurant and Liewerkoffi all made the initiative possible.
